STATE SOURCE. Recommended for:the following sources: bites, burns, cellulitis, decubitus, drain site, mucotaneous surfaces, skin, superficial abscesses, superficial wounds.

Transport Temperature
Swab-room temp. up to 12 hours, refrigerate up to 36 hours. Aspirates, fluids- refrigerate up to 6 hours.
Reference Range
Critical Value: Positive smear or culture of any sterile body fluid.
Clinical Significance
The significance of any isolate in pure or mixed culture must be assessed with respect to the source cultured, the organism's pathogenic potential , the possibility of colonization versus infection, and the number of organisms recovered in the same culture
