Clotted unspun specimen stable for 2 hours; uncapped separated specimen stable for 4 hours at room temp., separated specimen, capped, stable for 4 days if refrigerated.

See report for normal ranges. Critical Values: Adults <10 or >40 mmol/L, Pediatrics <15 or >40 mmol/L


Clinical Significance
Knowledge of the total CO2 in serum together with other clinical and laboratory information (pH, pCO2), is necessary for the evaluation of the acid-base status.
