Collect fluid during sterile lumbar puncture, ventricular or suboccipital tap. Place the fluid in a labeled sterile screw cap tube.

Deliver to Lab STAT : Specimen stable for 1 hour at room temp.


Reference Range
See report for normal ranges. Critical Values: Adults >1000 WBC/mm3, Pediatrics >10 WBC/mm3


Clinical Significance
Performed in suspected cases of infection, subarachnoid hemorrhage, central nervous system malignancies and demyelinating diseases.
