Limitations
Patients with drug-induced SLE may demonstrate positive ANAS. A small percentage of patients with SLE may not demonstrate ANA by indirect immunoenzyme but may have positive ANAS by other techniques. Positive ANAS are seen in a small percentage of patients with infectious and/or neoplastic diseases.
Clinical Significance
Indirect enzyme antibody test for autoantibodies against various cell nuclear proteins, detectable in many patients with a variety of autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, mixed connective tissue disease, scleroderma/CREST syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, and Polymyositis.
