Instructions
Blue-top tubes (3.2% Sodium Citrate) must be completely filled (to the 'fill-line'). If a Blue-top tube is the only tube being collected, it is recommended that you draw and DISCARD a minimum of 5 mL prior to collecting. If a specimen must be collected through an indwelling catheter, the line should be flushed
with 5 mL of saline and the first 5 mL of blood (or six dead space volumes of the catheter) discarded prior to drawing the testing specimen. If a specimen is drawn from an I.V. or arterial line, the I.V. must be turned off for at least 2 minutes and a minimum of 15 mL of blood discarded PRIOR to drawing this tube.
