  • Both serum and urine are required. Serum must be collected no earlier than 24 hours before start of urine collection and no later than 24 hours after urine collection is completed.

Instructions
Serum
  1. Label specimen as serum.
  2. Centrifuge and separate cells after clot formation and within 4 hours of collection. 

Urine
  1. Collect urine for 24 hours.
  2. Refrigerated specimen with 4 hours of complettion of 24-hour collection.
  3. This test does not require the use of a chemical preservative.

Processing 24-hour urine specimens

  1. Measure the total volume of the specimen.
  2. Mix the specimen well.
  3. Order 24URN in Soft and enter prompted information.
  4. Aliquot/transfer at least 3 mL specimen into plastic clear top (no additive) vacutainer tube.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Unlabeled, mislabeled, wrong tube type, hemolyzed, QNS, exceeds specimen stability requirements.
