Clinical Significance
Chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay for the qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc).   Microparticles coated with recombinant hepatitis B virus core antigen and combined with sample and diluent.  The anti-HBc antibodies present in the sample bind to the coated microparticles.  After washing, Pre-trigger and trigger solutions are added; the resulting chemiluminescent reaction is measured as relative light units (RLUs).  The presence or absence of anti-HBc antibodies in the specimen is determined by comparing the chemiluminescent signal in the reaction to the cutoff signal determined from an active calibration.
