Limitations

Gross hemolysis decreases results by up to 12%.  Gross icterus  increases results up to 14%. Lipids have <10% interference.

Clinical Significance
Amylase is produced in the pancreas and parotid glands. Measurement of amylase activity is of value in diagnosing pancreatitis and other pancreatic disorders which result in elevated serum and urine amylase.
