Limitations
The concentration of cyclosporine in a given specimen determined with assays from different manufacturers can vary due to differences in assay methods and reagent specificity. Immunoassays are nonspecific and can cross-react with metabolites. When elimination of cyclosporine is impaired cyclosporine metabolites may accumulate. The reported concentration of cyclosporine may be affected. In such cases, the use of LC/MS/MS should be considered.
Specimens containing HAMA (human anti-mouse antibodies) may produce anomalous values when tested with this assay.
Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with reagent immunoglobulins, interfering with in vitro immunoassays.
