•Sterile Container •ESwab with Liquid Amies Medium

 

 


Minimum Volume

Many sources available: Superficial Wound, Abscess, Bite, Ulcer,
Drain NOTE: Normally Sterile Body Fluids and
Tissue/Biopsy/Bone/etc. should be ordered as Body Fluid or Tissue,
and not as Wound •0.5mL of liquid sample or the maximum
amount of available sample. •ESwab with Liquid Amies
Medium



Instructions

•Aspirate/Drainage/Cyst/Fluid: Aspirate material from the
wall of the wound. Avoid surface material, sample the deepest
portion of the infected site. •Closed Abscess: Decontaminate
the skin and aspirate from the deepest portion of the infected
site. Submit in sterile screw cap container or capped syringe.
• Open Abscess or Lesion: Decontaminate the skin and collect
specimen from the advancing margin or base of wound. Submit in
sterile container or ESwab with Liquid Amies Medium.
•Drainage: Drainage should never be collected from the bag.
Drainage should be collected via a direct aspiration of fluid from
the area being drained or by aspiration of fresh fluid in the
drainage tube after decontamination of the surface of the device.
Submit fluid in a sterile leak-proof container. • Other
