- Collect full tube. Fill volume is critical for proper anticoagualnt ratio.
- If collecting samples in microtainer tubes, indicate if sample is venous or capillary (finger stick or heel stick).
Additional Information:
- Platelet clumping: submit a Light Blue (sodium citrate) tube along with the lavender tube. Rubber band tubes together and indicate on request that patient is a platelet clumper.
- Pathology Review: If a pathology review is required, order CBCM / Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Manual Differential and clearly indicate on request that Pathologist review is required.
Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 24 hours
Refrigerated: 48 hours
Frozen: Unacceptable
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted, fibrin strands, platelet clumps, grossly hemolyzed, samples drawn above an IV site.
