Gram stain and Aerobic bacterial culture for bacteria

•Sterile Container

•ESwab with Liquid Amies Medium/Culture Swab

•Capped syringe (needle removed)

Ear specimen

External Ear: Insert swab into ear until resistance is met.
Rotate swab and allow fluid to collect on swab. Submit swabs in
transport medium following manufacturer recommendations. Send
immediately to the laboratory.

Tympanocentesis fluid: Cleans the external ear canal with mild
detergent. Using a syringe aspiration technique, obtain the fluid
from the ear drum. Send the specimen in a sterile container or in
the capped syringe (needle removed).

Final negative report will be issued after 3-4 days
